今年，九年级A、B班的同学和我们一起参加音乐会。他们作为初中部的学长，陪同其他年级，一起为参加表演，并同时担任后台管理工作。

This year,grade 9 gathered with us at the concert. These students as the elders of their middle school started off the show and accompanied other classes and helped run the show backstage.

九年级的学习重点是20世纪的音乐，以及学习弹吉他。杰夫·巴克利的标志性吉他风格是歌曲《哈利路亚》的灵感来源。这首歌是对大卫、芭丝谢芭和所罗门的古代故事的现代复述。挑指的风格和忧郁的民谣使这首歌闻名于世，你可能在许多电影的背景中也听到过这首歌。

In Grade 9 the focus of study is music of the 20th century and students have been learning to play the guitar. Jeff Buckley’s iconic guitar style is the inspiration for this first song “Hallelujah”. Written by song writer Leonard Cohen this song is a modern retelling of the ancient story of David, Bathsheba, and Solomon. The finger picking style and the melancholy ballad have made this song  famous, you may have heard it in the background of many films.

歌曲《体面》是电影《前任3：再见前任》的插曲。该曲获第23届华鼎奖中国电影最佳歌曲奖；华人歌曲音乐盛典年度金曲；12月18日，以及Billboard Radio China 2018年度华语十大金曲。歌曲旋律委婉动听，伤感且带着洒脱，韵味十足。九年级同学为我们带来了吉他弹唱版的《体面》。

The song "Ti Mian" means “Grace” or “Dignity” is an excerpt from the movie "Predecessor 3: Goodbye to the Ex". The song won the 23rd Huading Awards for the Best Song of Chinese Film; the Golden Song of the Chinese Songs and Music Festival; December 18, and Billboard Radio China's 2018 Top Ten Chinese Golden Songs. The melody of the song is euphemistic and beautiful, sentimental and free and easy, and full.

老乔·克拉克，是一首美国小提琴曲，在美国和世界其他地方都很有名。已经有超过90首诗是关于书名人物“老乔·克拉克”的，他可能是一个真正的男人，也可能不是。有人认为他是一个月光族，有人认为他是1812年战争中的一名士兵，还有人认为他是一名班卓琴演奏者。我们相信他是一个住在一栋18层楼高的房子里的人，房子里摆满了鸡肉馅饼，他喜欢民间音乐。在蓝草音乐中，重复旋律和交换乐器是很常见的。在我们的版本中，吉他、录音机和声音交换了曲调。六年级和九年级一起重现了这首经典民谣。

Our next song, Old Joe Clark, is an American fiddle tune well-known throughout the United States and other parts of the world. Over 90 verses have been written about the title character “Old Joe Clark” who may or may not have been a real man. Some believe he was a moonshiner, some believe he was a soldier in the war of 1812, still others think he was a Banjo player. We believe he was a man who lived in a house 18 stories high filled with chicken pie who loved folk music. In bluegrass music it is common to repeat melodies and trade instruments. In our version the guitar, recorder, and voice traded the tune.Grade 6 and grade 9 who performed together to recreate this folk-ballad classic.

这个学年，六年级音乐课的侧重点在器乐音乐上。课上，我们学习了关于乐器的知识点，并选取了木管乐器中的竖笛来进行体验。

This school year, the focus of the sixth grade music class is on instrumental music. In class, we learned about musical instruments and chose the recorder from woodwind instruments to experience.

《踏雪寻梅》是一首欣赏冬天自然美景的歌曲。梅花不畏冬雪，傲然绽放，吐艳枝头，千百年来人们赞美这样的雪梅精神。《踏雪寻梅》表达了青少年学生骑着毛驴，踏着冬雪去欣赏梅花绽放的情景。歌曲以轻快活跃的曲调抒发了人们赏梅时的兴奋、愉快的心情，词曲并茂。合唱是以骑驴赏梅、铃儿的叮当响声为意境来编配的。六年级的同学用竖笛和自己的歌声来表现了这首歌的意境。

"Ta Xue Xun Mei" is a song to appreciate the natural beauty of winter. The plum blossoms defy winter snow, blooming proudly, and splendidly on the branches. For thousands of years, people have praised the beauty of snow plums. It expresses the scene of young students riding on donkeys and admiring the blooming of plum blossoms in winter snow. The song expresses people's excitement and happiness when they appreciate the plums with a lively and active tune, with both lyrics and music. The chorus is arranged with the artistic conception of riding a donkey to appreciate plum blossoms and the jingle of bells. Sixth grade students used their recorders and their own singing to perform this song.

Always With Me是宫崎骏动画《千与千寻》的片尾曲。中国歌手周深曾翻唱过此歌曲，并更名为《亲爱的旅人啊》。这首歌的作者木村弓，看到动的、画《幽灵公主》之后大为感动，便兴起了希望自己能为宫崎骏之后的动画演唱歌曲的念头，之后便自荐将自己曾作过的录音作品及自己翻唱的一些《幽灵公主》歌曲寄给宫崎骏。宫崎骏在制作《千与千寻》时认为Always With Me符合作品的风格，并推荐给动画制作人铃木敏夫欣赏，让这首歌成为了《千与千寻》片尾曲。这首歌曲对于六年级的同学具有一定的挑战，他们提出想加入不同的乐器音色，在音乐课上很努力地练习。

Always With Me is the ending song of Hayao Miyazaki's animation "Spirited Away". Chinese singer Zhou Shen once sang this song and renamed it "Dear Traveler". The author of this song, Kimura Yumura, was so moved after seeing the animation "Princess Mononoke", he arose in the hope that he could sing songs for Hayao Miyazaki's animation afterwards, and then he volunteered to include the recordings he made and sent some songs from "Princess Mononoke" to Hayao Miyazaki. When Miyazaki made "Spirited Away", he believed that Always With Me was in line with the style of the work, and recommended it to the animator Toshio Suzuki for appreciation, making this song the ending song of "Spirited Away". This song poses a certain challenge to the sixth grade students. They proposed to add different instruments and practice hard in the music class.

学期初，我们回顾了夏季，回忆起了在日本东京举行的奥运会，并观看了我们最喜欢的体育赛事。我们在音乐课上也期待着即将到来的学年，并许下了愿望。

At the beginning of the semester we looked back to the summer time and reminisced about the olympics and watching our favourite sports take place in Tokyo. We also looked forward to the upcoming school year and contemplated what we hoped and wished for the year ahead.

为了获得灵感，我们学习了日本的七夕节。日本七夕节的起源与中国的七夕节相似，在日本，他们的传统有所不同。在这个节日里，人们把愿望写在彩色的纸上，挂在树上，希望愿望成真。在学年开始时，我们遵循这一传统，唱了这首七夕歌，并为我们的新一年许下了愿望。6年级和7年级一起表演了这首特别的七夕歌曲。

For inspiration we learned about Tanabata, the japanese star festival. With origins similar to the Qixi festival from china, in japan their traditions differ. During this festival, people write wishes on coloured pieces of paper and hang them on trees in hopes they will come true. At the beginning of the school year we followed this tradition, sang this Tanabata song, and made wishes for our year ahead. Grade 6 and 7 performed together for this special Tanabata song.

七年级音乐课的侧重点在戏剧音乐上，用音乐讲述故事。课上，我们学习了音乐剧，电影音乐，西方歌剧，中国戏曲，并进行了比较，让我们感受到了where east meets west（中西文化融合）在戏剧音乐上的碰撞。同时，我们还学习了简单的尤克里里弹唱。

The focus of the seventh grade music class is on drama and music, using music to tell stories. In class, we studied musicals, film music, Western operas, Chinese operas, and made comparisons, which made us feel the collision of where east meets west (the fusion of Chinese and Western cultures) in drama and music. At the same time, we also learned simple ukulele playing and singing.

My Favorite Things是音乐剧电影《音乐之声》中Maria所演唱的一首著名歌曲。歌曲风格如孩子般俏皮，具有很强的跳跃性以及亲和力。电影中的家庭女教师Maria，为了帮助七个孩子克服对雷雨的恐惧而唱起这首歌，Maria就此与七个孩子拉近了关系。

My Favorite Things is a famous song sung by Maria in the musical film "The Sound of Music". The style of the song is as playful as a child, with strong jumping and affinity. Maria, the governess in the movie, sang this song in order to help the seven children overcome the fear of thunderstorms, and Maria got closer to the seven children.

每年，两位音乐老师都会问我们是否有我们想在课堂上演奏的歌曲。今年七年级的学生对贾斯汀·贝伯和基德·拉洛伊的歌曲Stay非常感兴趣。这是一首有趣而快速的歌曲，很难不跟着跳舞。

Every year Ms. Francis and Ms. Caity ask us if there are any songs we would like to play in class. This year grade 7 students were very enthusiastic about Justin Beiber and Kid Laroi’s song “Stay.” This song is an anthem for people who make mistakes and are hoping for a second chance. It’s a fun and fast song that’s hard not to dance to.

这个月的25号，我们迎来了冬天的节日-圣诞节。而12月24日则是平安夜，也就是我们所熟悉的圣诞节前夕，又被称作为圣诞夜（Christmas Eve），类似于我们中国的除夕。如今，由于中西文化的融合，平安夜已成为一个世界节日。Silent Night正是安夜所唱的歌曲。七年级的同学将用自己的歌声，提前带我们进入到这个平静祥和的夜晚。

On the 25th of this month, we ushered in the winter holiday-Christmas. And December 24th is Christmas Eve, also known as Christmas Eve, which is also known as Christmas Eve, which is similar to our Chinese New Year's Eve. Today, due to the integration of Chinese and Western cultures, Christmas Eve has become a world festival. Silent Night is a song officially sung on Christmas Eve. 八年级音乐课的侧重点在传统音乐及世界音乐上。《嘎达梅林》是蒙古族长篇叙事歌曲，产生于内蒙古科尔沁左翼中旗。这首歌以20世纪30年代发生在科尔沁左翼中旗的嘎达梅林起义事件为素材，全面记叙了嘎达梅林率领贫苦牧民反抗封建王公和军阀政府掠夺土地的正义斗争，生动地塑造了嘎达梅林主持正义、为民请命、不畏强暴的英雄形象，讴歌了蒙古族人民不屈不挠的斗争精神。Ms.Caity将用大提琴演奏并模仿马头琴婉约悠长的蒙古族风格。两位音乐老师与八年级同学一同表演了这首《嘎达梅林》。

The eighth grade music class focuses on traditional music and world music. "Gada Meilin" is a long narrative song of the Mongolian nationality, produced in Horqin Zuoyizhong Banner, Inner Mongolia. This song is based on the Gada Meilin uprising that occurred in Horqin Left Middle Banner in the 1930s. It fully narrates Gada Meilin’s just struggle against the feudal princes and warlord governments against land grabbing by poor herders, and vividly shaped Gada. The heroic image of Mei Lin reigning with justice, pleading for the people, and defying violence, praised the Mongolian people's unyielding spirit of struggle. Ms.Caity played the cello and imitated the graceful and long Mongolian style of Matouqin.

《阿里郎》是中国朝鲜族抒情民歌的代表性作品，在中国朝鲜族群众中具有极大的影响力。歌曲生动地表现了中国朝鲜族人民的内心世界。旋律明朗、优美动听、感情哀婉。歌词和旋律充分体现了朝鲜民族的传统风俗。这首歌长期在民间用口头传唱的形式流传下来，并经过加工、发展和变化流传至今。八年级的同学为大家带来了歌颂友谊版的《阿里郎》。

"Arirang" is a representative work of Chinese Korean lyrical folk songs that has a great influence among the Chinese Korean people. The song vividly expresses the inner world of the Korean people in China. The melody is clear, beautiful, and sad. The lyrics and melody fully reflect the traditional customs of the Korean nation. This song has been handed down in orally among the folks people for a long time, and it has evolved over time until now.Eighth grade students presented to us the friendship version of  "Arirang".

布鲁斯是一种感情、一种音乐形式和一种体裁。蓝调音乐往往是关于爱情和悲伤的，建立在一个简单的12小节和弦的基础上，包含非常务实的歌词，并随着时间的推移而发展。它还包括即兴独奏，表演者在即兴独奏的瞬间提出自己的旋律。在今年八年级的课上，我们写了自己的布鲁斯歌词，内容是关于让我们感到忧郁的事情。我们表演了我们的原创歌曲，其中包括我们自己写的歌词和器乐的即兴独奏。

The blues is a many things: a feeling, a form of music, and a genre. Blues music tends to be about love and sadness, built off a simple 12-bar chord progression, contains very down-to-earth lyrics, and evolves with time.  It also includes improvised solos where performers come up with their own melodies in the moment. In our grade 8 classes this year, we wrote our own blues lyrics about things that make us feel blue.

非洲音乐是许多音乐风格的基础。它有许多不同类型的打击乐器，许多节奏同时演奏，唱歌和跳舞。你将听到的下一首歌是非洲圣诞颂歌，名为“Noel”。你会听到的打击乐器有Djembe，一种夹在你两腿之间的鼓，Shekere，通常是一种用葫芦和小珠子或贝壳做成的摇壶，还有双铃。

African music is the foundation of many styles of music. It features many different types of percussion, many rhythms playing at the same time, singing, and dancing.  The next song you will hear is an African Christmas carol called “African Noel”. The percussion instruments you will hear are the Djembe, a drum held between your legs, the Shekere, usually a shaker made from a gourd and small beads or shells, and the double bell.
