When it comes to TED talks, a fixed picture might pop in your mind:
Standing on a red carpet
Sharing childhood experiences
Showing research results
Calling on everybody to take action
真的是这样吗？这就是Ted Talk的全部面貌吗？当然不是，作为演讲者，首要任务是向听众传递一件与众不同的礼物，一个神奇又美丽的东西，我们称之为想法。那么我们八年级同学最近都在关注什么？他们有些什么想法呢？让我们走入八年级英语Ted Talk演讲活动一探究竟。
Is it really so? Is this what Ted Talk is all about? Of course not. As a speaker, your first job is to deliver a unique gift to your audience, something magical and beautiful, which we call an idea. So what have our eighth graders been focusing on lately? What thoughts do they have? Let's step into the Ted Talk Activity of Grade 8 to take a look.
在这个寒冷的冬季，万源协和的八年级学生却忙得热火朝天。大家都在为TED TALK活动做准备。每个人都精心撰写了自己喜爱的主题的稿子，认真修改润色，录制了自己的演讲视频。最终，通过班与班之间的投票，每班选出两名选手参加最终的决选。本次活动最有动力的地方是采用了分层演讲的方式，每位同学都有机会进入决赛！大家都期待着决赛的那天！
This winter is freezing, but the 8th graders of SUIS WANYUAN are working on fire. Everyone was working hard for the TED TALK Activity. Everyone wrote a draft for a topic he or she fancies, edited and recorded their own video. Finally, by inter-class voting, every class selected 2 contestants to participate in the final round. The most attractive part of this activity is that each student has a chance to enter the final! No wonder that everyone was expecting the big final day!
终于，在12月20日，决赛到来了！在正式开始前，由一个视频开场。视频里是我们所有人演讲视频的截图，这缓解了不少紧张气氛。
Finally, on 20th December, the final round arrived! A video was shown before the formal onset of the competition. In the video was a screenshot for everyone’s video. It actually let us relaxed a little bit from the tense atmosphere.
随着主持人的宣告，比赛正式开始！12名选手在台上展现着自己的风采。他们有的针对外星人是否存在提出假设，有的从另类的角度分析了漫画的益处，有的呼吁大家停止拖延，提高效率。他们在台上从容不迫，即使顶着压力也依然能游刃有余。有些选手太过紧张，出现了忘词的情况，但他们还是能迅速应变。每位选手的表现都十分精彩，台下也是掌声雷动。尤其是讲到丝绸之路时，因为这个主题极其冷门，所以大家也更关注了它。TED TALK本是国外的演讲，但是我们的同学却给它赋予了中国的元素，讲述着当下青少年的想法。也是一次创新！
With the declaration of the hosts, the competition begins! The twelve contestants showed their abilities and competence on the stage. One gave hypotheses on whether aliens exist or not, another talked about the positive aspect of reading comics and watching cartoons, another called on us to stop procrastinating and improve efficiency. They were calm and confident, despite the fact that they were under immense pressure. Some contestants were too nervous that they forgot what to say, but they can always react quickly to it. Every contestant was acting perfectly, and the applause thundered. Especially when the Silk Road was mentioned, because of the rarity of this kind of topic, the audience gave it more attention. TED TALK is a foreign speech platform originally, but our classmates added some Chinese attributes to it, which is quite an innovation.
很快所有选手都已经比赛完毕，大家都在紧张地等待着结果。
It was soon after everyone finished their speeches, and everyone, from the contestants to the audience, all waited nervously for the results.
最终，结果揭晓！中外教老师们从多个角度综合评分，评出一等奖2名，二等奖4名，三等奖6名，选手们也得到了相应的奖状和奖品。恭喜所有的获奖选手！感谢所有老师的付出和帮助！相信通过这次比拼，大家都学会了很多。
At last, the result was revealed! The foreign teachers graded the contestants from several aspects and had two for First Prize, four for the Second Prize, and six for the Third Prize. The contestants all got their awards and prizes in accordance with their respective honors. Congratulate all the contestants! Thanks again for all the teachers’ dedication! I believe that from this competition, everyone has learnt a lot.

I started preparing for the speech instantly after I heard about the event. I practiced again and again after I finished my script. I was very confident in myself but I didn’t think I could get the champion since the other speakers are all very excellent and fluent. I got quite a lot pressure for sure.
Finally, it was a great moment for me and I’m grateful to all the teachers who helped and supported me. I hope the SUIS Ted Talk event will keep going forward and inspire the ideas worth spreading among all of us.
I think this Ted Talk is a really good opportunity for every student to prove their English skills. Also the content or topic our speeches presented might impact on the other students. The presentation is virtually positive, so it will presumably let you learn something interesting and new. The thing I talked about was the advantages of doing exercises because this is indispensable in life. Then obviously, my intention of presenting this was to encourage more people to work out. DO MORE EXERCISES! Stop spending most or more of your time with an electronic equipment! At last, I appreciate all of the teachers who helped me. Thanks to the audience for listening to my lecture, as well as my friends, including you in front of the screen!
这次的活动给了我在全年级同学以及老师面前演讲的机会，让我颇有收获。从最开始的写稿、录视频，再到外教课上的反复修改和教室中的当堂演讲，整个活动都令我记忆深刻。虽然最后与一等奖无缘，但代表荣誉的奖状和奖品仍让我认为所有的付出都是值得的。期待在下一次演讲中更进一步！
我觉得这次Ted Talk活动非常有意义，让我学到了很多知识，奖品也很丰富。这是我第一次站在大舞台上，非常有成就感，期待下一次演讲的机会，我会继续努力、继续进步！
It is my great honor to attend the 2021 TED Talk final round. I treasured this competition as a chance for me to improve my speaking skills. I felt excited and also a bit nervous as I will be facing powerful contestants from other classes.
I carefully chose the topic ‘The Silk Road’ and practiced retelling my draft every day. As time flied, it was the day of Final Round. When we sat in order at the front, I felt confident about myself and aimed at the first prize.
Surprisingly, the competitors spoke so well that I became more and more worried about my standard. It turned out that I came in second.
Many of their ideas surprised me, and the contestants’ presented in-depth comprehension of their topics. They inspired me to work harder on my speaking skills!
大家好！我便是那位Cary先生。虽然嘞，我非常荣幸获得了B C层的一等奖，但是，说实话，我初赛和复赛是都没想到会获奖，当时只有抱着试一试的心态做的，误打误撞就进了决赛，决赛时因为有点紧张，出了些错，一下台，看到别人的后，我就觉得多半是和第一名无缘了，最后得到第一名，是多少有一点意料之外的。当然啦，得到第一名还是很高兴的，在此我要感谢老师们对我的认可和肯定，谢谢！
最后总结一下，做所有的事，最基本的就是要认真完成，你就会为你的认真和努力高兴。没成，你也尽力了，说明这事已经超出你的个人能力了，下次再战呗。
这次的演讲活动令我感受很深。对比其他人的演讲，我的演讲有很多不足。令我印象最深也是感受最多的演讲是8C刘同学的演讲，他一上台，我就能感受到他强烈的自信。在演讲的内容上，他的语言也十分的通顺，内容详实具体，生动形象，令人被吸引在他的演讲中。这次的活动非常成功，对于演讲者们不仅是技能上的提升，对于观众来说也拓展了他们的知识、收获很多自己的理解。希望之后也能有这样拓展性的活动！
非常荣幸可以进入Ted talk总决赛和各班的英语精英们同台竞技。对于我自己来说，我是个很容易紧张、不太自信的人。在上场前，我紧张到心跳到嗓子眼，但出乎意料的是，当我站当台上的那一刻，我紧张的情绪全都消散了。我感到了演讲的魔力。这样的活动，不仅可以锻炼我们的英语写作、演讲能力，更可以让我们感受舞台、变得更加自信！同时也很感谢用心组织本次活动的中外教老师们，老师们将活动分为不同的层次，不仅仅成绩优秀的同学有机会展现自己，只要认真准备，大家都可以走到最后，这一点真的太棒了！
Last week, I went up to the stage and had a speech in front of everybody. Before the presentation, I had already practiced many times at home. I tried my best. My teachers and classmates helped a lot too. They provided ideas for me. I really appreciate them. During the speech, while watching other contestants’ amazing speech, I became very nervous but I encouraged myself and in the end, I completed my speech. Although I was not the first and second place, I tried my best. I think this opportunity of coming up the stage and gave a speech taught me a lot. This speech contributed to me. It influenced me deeply and made me more confident.
首次参加学校的TED TALK 比赛，既陌生又兴奋。从选主题开始，我就决定去认真挑战这个全新的表演。从班里选拔到决赛， 一路走来，让我感受到了一场完美的演讲，是知识、情感的结合体。当我在决赛中第一个上场时，我把一个真实的自己显现在大家面前，坦然、坚定和一点点的紧张。最终取得二等奖，我很开心，也非常感谢老师对我的指导。TED TALK让我快乐、自信，这条路我还会继续......
I’m really excited that I was be chosen on to be the TED talker. I will say thanks to my teachers that help me for my speech.Then I will say thanks to my mom and dad, because they helped me to take the video. Finally, I want to thank Miss Deer and every student that trust me and gave me opportunity to represent our class.
我有幸作为A班演讲者上台发表关于提高效率的演讲。为了这次演讲，我前前后后忙碌了将近一个月，改了好几版稿，排练了几十次。虽然最后的结果不是很理想，但是通过这次活动，我收获了许多演讲技巧与经验，也认识到了很多很厉害的同学。很感谢所有帮助过我的老师和听我练习的朋友，让我受益匪浅。
